Abhijeet Dipke Granted Conditional Bail After Arrest in Delhi
New Delhi, October 17, 2026: Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was granted conditional bail on Saturday and directed to sign a fresh peace bond, police sources confirmed.
Dipke was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly violating a peace bond he had furnished on October 10. The arrest came shortly after Delhi Police detained him on Friday evening outside his residence in the Jhandewalan area. Authorities had acted to stop him from leading the CJP’s planned “Lehra Do Tiranga” protest at Connaught Place.
According to a senior police officer, Dipke was released on the basis of the assurance given in the new peace bond. Officials said they are awaiting the written court order for further details.
The detention and subsequent arrest took place against the backdrop of ongoing demonstrations targeting the Election Commission and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral roll revisions. Delhi Police had invoked Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), imposing prohibitory orders against public assemblies in Central Delhi.
CJP’s legal affairs head Ratna Singh strongly criticised the arrest. In a post on X, she questioned how calling for a peaceful national flag demonstration could be treated as an offence and urged the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) Court to order Dipke’s immediate release. Singh alleged that Dipke was picked up outside his home without prompt disclosure of his whereabouts and that his lawyers were denied access, raising concerns about due process and fundamental rights.
“The SEM Court should release Abhijeet Dipke, as his arrest is unlawful. He merely urged people to unfurl the Tiranga – how can that by itself be a crime?” Singh wrote. She further stated that Delhi Police cannot carry out unlawful acts under the garb of preventive detention.
Dipke had been scheduled to be produced before the SEM at Mandir Marg Police Station around noon on Saturday. The conditional bail and direction to sign a peace bond mark the latest development in the high-profile case involving the CJP founder.
The episode has drawn attention to the use of preventive measures and peace bonds in connection with public protests in the national capital.
