Shocking Delhi Accident: 4 Students Critical After Hostel Collapse
A major Delhi accident struck on Sunday when a five-storey building used as a student hostel near the South Campus collapsed, trapping residents under debris. According to the Delhi Fire Service, four people have been rescued so far. All four are in critical condition and have been rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre.
The exact number of people still feared trapped could not be confirmed immediately. Locals said at least 30 students were residing in the building. A few workers who had been working in the basement had left for lunch just before the structure came down.
Visuals from the site showed a leg trapped under the rubble as fire officials worked to free the person. Eight fire tenders and multiple rescue teams from various departments reached the spot quickly. JCBs have been pressed into service to clear the debris. Police have cordoned off the area, are clearing the way for emergency vehicles, and are repeatedly asking onlookers and locals to stay away from the site.
Student volunteers from Delhi University are assisting in the ongoing rescue operations. The Delhi Fire Service continues to search for anyone still trapped inside. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the collapse.
