CBI Nabs Oil India Deputy GM, Private Company Official in Bribery Sting
Guwahati, May 5 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals, including a Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Oil India Limited (OIL) in Duliajan, Assam, and a DGM (Sales & Marketing) of a Noida-based private company, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 7 lakh. A portion of the bribe money was used to purchase gold worth Rs 3.73 lakh.
Details of the Case
The CBI registered a case on May 3 against four accused, including the OIL official, the MD, and DGM of the private firm, along with unknown public servants. Investigations revealed that the accused public servant conspired with the private company executive to demand bribes in exchange for awarding contracts and clearing bills, causing losses to the government.
Bribe Demand & Arrest
The OIL official allegedly demanded 70 grams of gold from the private company executive, who instead offered Rs 7 lakh in cash. After receiving the amount, the accused public servant bought gold coins worth Rs 3.73 lakh and kept the remaining Rs 3.34 lakh.
The CBI set up a trap and caught the OIL official with the cash and gold purchase receipts. Both accused were arrested and will be presented before a special CBI court in Ghaziabad.
