Black Panther 3: David Jonsson Cast as T’Challa’s Son, December 15 2028 Release Set
Black Panther 3 is officially moving forward with a major casting announcement and a firm release date.
At Marvel’s Comic-Con Hall H panel, the studio confirmed that David Jonsson will play Prince T’Challa II, the son of the late T’Challa, in Black Panther 3. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 15, 2028.
Jonsson’s character was first introduced as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The new movie will follow the young prince as he comes of age and steps into a larger role within Wakanda.
Ryan Coogler is returning to direct, reuniting with Letitia Wright as Shuri and Winston Duke as M’Baku. Wright previously took on the Black Panther mantle in Wakanda Forever after the passing of Chadwick Boseman.
Jonsson recently delivered standout performances in Alien: Romulus and the Stephen King adaptation The Long Walk, making him a high-profile addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The original Black Panther (2018) earned $1.3 billion worldwide and made history with seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), grossed $859 million and secured five Oscar nominations, including a historic Best Supporting Actress nod for Angela Bassett.
Fans will also see Wright back in the suit sooner, as she joins the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, set for release on December 18.
Black Panther 3 continues the legacy of one of Marvel’s most acclaimed franchises, blending fresh talent with returning favorites under Coogler’s direction. The December 15, 2028 release gives audiences a clear date to mark on their calendars.
