Bhiwandi Building Collapse 2026: 1 Dead, 7-8 Feared Trapped in Shocking 4-Storey Tragedy

Mumbai: In a heartbreaking incident, a portion of a four-storey residential building collapsed in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi late Thursday night, leaving one person dead and 7-8 others feared trapped under the rubble amid heavy rainfall.

The tragic collapse occurred around 11:30 PM on July 30, 2026, at the Kohinoor Building in Balaji Nagar area of Bhiwandi. Rescue teams from the Bhiwandi Fire Brigade, local police, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) immediately rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search-and-rescue operation.

A dog squad, four fire engines, two ambulances, and heavy earth-moving machinery have been deployed at the site to clear the debris and save lives.

According to Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation Fire Officer Vijay Jadhav, one body has been recovered from the rubble, while an injured boy was successfully rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital. Search operations continue for the remaining trapped individuals.

The building, which had 48 rooms (12 on each floor), was already classified as a ‘Category C’ structure — indicating it was in a dangerous and dilapidated condition. The Municipal Corporation had issued evacuation notices, and most residents had vacated. However, one family reportedly stayed behind while repair work was in progress, along with some labourers.
