Assam to Sign Key MoUs with Japan, Singapore at Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit

Guwahati, February 15, 2024: The Assam government is poised to sign two major Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Japan and Singapore during the upcoming Advantage Assam 2.0 investors summit, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday. The summit, set to take place on February 25, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar participating in a thematic session.

Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, CM Sarma revealed that Japan has expressed interest in recruiting around 50,000 skilled workers from Assam, while Singapore aims to employ nurses from the state, further strengthening bilateral workforce collaboration.

Reflecting on the success of the first Advantage Assam summit, the Chief Minister highlighted two major infrastructure projects that emerged from the event—the Paradeep to Numaligarh crude pipeline and the establishment of a gas grid, both supported by the central government.

CM Sarma also emphasized Assam’s role in regional industrial growth, citing Bhutan’s Gelephu My Fullness City initiative. He urged the Bhutan government to create a special industrial economic zone in Assam to boost cross-border economic ties.

During his recent visit to Singapore, CM Sarma met with the President of Singapore, highlighting Assam’s increasing global recognition. The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit aims to further attract international investment and foster economic development in the region.

With high-profile participation and strategic partnerships, the event is expected to position Assam as a key player in India’s economic growth story.
