Assam Celebrates Rongali Bihu with Joy, Unity, and Hopes for Prosperity
Guwahati, April 16: The vibrant celebrations of Rongali Bihu marked the Assamese New Year with immense enthusiasm across Assam on Tuesday. People came together to welcome Bohag (the first month of the Assamese calendar) with prayers for prosperity, happiness, and communal harmony.
Leaders Extend Greetings
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended warm wishes to the people on this auspicious occasion. Governor Acharya, in a post on X, expressed hopes that Rongali Bihu would strengthen Assam’s traditional harmony and bring prosperity.
Chief Minister Sarma reaffirmed his government’s commitment to transforming Assam into one of India’s top five states while ensuring the welfare of all citizens.
Festive Traditions and Celebrations
The festivities began on Monday with Garu Bihu, dedicated to cattle worship, followed by Manuh Bihu on Tuesday, where people exchanged greetings and blessings. The celebrations will continue throughout Bohag, featuring Bihu songs, dances, and cultural performances.
A key highlight was the traditional Husori troupes, where young performers visited homes to bless families. In Sivasagar, the historic Rangghar amphitheater hosted Bihu performances, reviving Ahom-era traditions. Across the state, people celebrated with open-air dances, gift exchanges, and new clothes.
Rongali Bihu not only ushers in the Assamese New Year but also reinforces Assam’s rich cultural heritage and unity.
