Guwahati,January 24: Veteran journalist and columnist Bhupen Goswami suffered a heart attack and was rushed to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday.
Goswami, who is also the national vice president of the National Union of Journalists, India (NUJI), and chief advisor of the Journalists’ Association of Assam (JAA), was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the GMCH’s cardiology department.
According to hospital sources, Goswami’s heart pumping system has become very weak, resulting in breathing difficulties. The doctors have put him under observation for the next 48 hours before deciding on the next course of treatment.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier directed the GMCH authorities to provide the best possible treatment to Goswami. The state government will bear all the expenses of his treatment. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah have wished Goswami a speedy recovery.
The Journalists’ Association of Assam (JAA) and the National Union of Journalists, India (NUJI) have also wished Goswami a speedy recovery. Goswami’s family has expressed gratitude to the Assam government, the chief minister, and the health minister for their support and assistance.
It may be mentioned that Goswami was admitted to the GMCH on July 11, 2024, after complaining of breathing difficulties. He was discharged from the hospital on July 22, 2024, after undergoing treatment.
However, his condition deteriorated again, and he was rushed to the GMCH on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack.
