Arunachal Clarifies Elephant Transfer to Gujarat, Dispels Illegality Rumors

Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Wildlife Warden, N. Tam, has issued a clarification regarding the transfer of 21 elephants from Namsai district to Gujarat, dismissing claims of illegality. The transfer was carried out with full compliance and proper authorization, adhering to the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The elephants, mostly aged and in poor health, were transported in specially designed ambulances after DNA profiling and health checks. They will receive lifelong care at the Vantara rescue center in Gujarat.

The transfer was facilitated by the Radhe Krishna Temple Welfare Trust, a reputed rescue center for elephants and wildlife. The process involved obtaining necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the Gujarat Forest Department and transportation permissions from the Chief Wildlife Warden of Arunachal Pradesh.

The CWLW emphasized that the transfer was done with strict adherence to welfare and transportation guidelines, ensuring the safe transport of the elephants. A dedicated team of over 200 professionals, including veterinarians and caretakers, facilitated the transfer.

The clarification comes in response to allegations circulating on social media and certain news outlets, which claimed that the transfer was illegal. The CWLW’s statement aims to dispel these rumors and provide a clear understanding of the transfer process.
