Tawang,January 25: A devastating wildfire that erupted on January 24 in the Tawang Chu river area of Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district has been largely contained, thanks to swift intervention by local authorities, the Indian Army, and residents. The fire had threatened to engulf Sagkyur village and nearby residential areas, but timely action prevented any loss of life or property .
The wildfire, which broke out near the Tawang Chu river, quickly spread due to strong winds and dry conditions. However, the Lungla administration, with support from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Indian Army personnel from the Tawang Brigade, local police, and residents, quickly sprang into action to contain the blaze.
Although the fire has been contained near residential areas, it continues to burn in the dense jungle due to the challenging terrain of steep mountains and inaccessible areas. Authorities remain on high alert to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Lungla’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Ama Nungnu Mara and District Disaster Management Officer Genden Tsomu are leading the coordination efforts on the ground. The district administration has advised residents to stay vigilant and report any further developments or incidents to the authorities immediately.
The swift response of the authorities and residents has averted a major disaster, and efforts are ongoing to bring the fire under control.
