A devastating fire broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday evening, engulfing at least 18 tents in the Sector 19 campsite area. The fire was triggered by the explosion of two to three gas cylinders, officials said .
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties have been reported, thanks to the prompt response of the local authorities, police, and fire departments. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the site to assess the situation and review the emergency response measures.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to Yogi Adityanath, seeking information about the fire incident. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team arrived at the scene to assist in dousing the blaze .
The Maha Kumbh 2025 official handle posted, “Very sad! The fire incident at #MahaKumbh has shocked everyone. The administration is ensuring immediate relief and rescue operations. We pray Maa Ganga for everyone’s safety” .
The grand Maha Kumbh 2025 began on January 13, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Paush Purnima. So far, over 7.72 crore devotees have participated in the sacred Hindu festival by taking the holy dip.
