India Wins 2 Historic Golds at Asian Games 2026, Climbs to Top 10
India’s Asian Games 2026 campaign received a powerful boost on Tuesday as two gold medals helped the country climb back into the top 10 of the medal table. The contingent finished the day with a strong haul, taking its overall tally to 53 medals — six gold, 21 silver and 26 bronze.
The gold-medal double came in shooting and athletics. Neeru Dhanda produced a historic performance in the women’s trap individual event, winning India’s first-ever Asian Games gold in the discipline. Despite incessant rain that affected visibility, she stayed composed and finished with 28 hits in the final to set an Asian Games record. It was also India’s first individual shooting gold of the Games.
The day ended on a high note with the first athletics gold for the Indian contingent. The women’s 4x400m relay team delivered a top finish to claim the top prize.
India also added a silver through the women’s trap team. On the track, Gulveer Singh completed a hat-trick of medals with a bronze in the men’s 5000m, while Pooja secured bronze in the women’s high jump. The mixed 4x100m relay and men’s 4x400m relay teams each collected bronze, taking India’s total for the day to six medals.
The two golds ended India’s wait for the top step of the podium after two days without a gold following the double triumph in kabaddi on September 26.
India’s campaign continues on Day 12 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday. Athletes will compete across 13 disciplines, with medal events expected in archery, shooting and boxing.
