On Sunday, the grand Basundhara Yuva Conclave 2025 and Award Ceremony was held at Dr. Rohinikanta Barua Law College Auditorium in Dibrugarh to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the daily newspaper Asom Barta. The event, which began at 2 PM, was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Asom Barta’s Director and Publisher, young journalist Tonay Bora.
Padma Shri awardee and ‘Forest Man’ Jadav Payeng attended as the distinguished guest, extending his best wishes on the fifth anniversary of Asom Barta and speaking extensively on humanity’s responsibility and duty towards environmental conservation.
During the event, Asom Barta Group presented its 2025 awards. The Yuva Rajnitigyo Award 2025 was conferred upon Housing, Labor, and Tea Tribe Welfare Minister Rupesh Gowala, while Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia received the Dr. Purnanarayan Singh Politician Award 2025.
Vocalist and music director Manas Robin was honored with the Bishnuprasad Rabha Cultural Award 2025, journalist Paramananda Bora, Bureau Chief of Pratidin Time Satellite Channel for Upper Assam, received the Homen Borgohain Journalism Award 2025, and noted writer and skilled police officer Dr. Nanda Singh Barkala was awarded the Sahitya Unmesh Award 2025. Social worker and Director of Sankalp, Rajiv Bora, was presented with the Jananeta Award 2025. Additionally, Asom Barta’s staff reporter from Dhadhnoi, senior journalist Bhabesh Chandra Bhagawati, received the Journalist of the Year Award, while Sailen Gogoi, staff reporter from Tinsukia, was honored with the Jouth Journalist of the Year Award.
The newspaper group also recognized and felicitated around twenty journalists from various fields in Assam, including social, educational, political, and literary spheres. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including renowned writer, researcher, and linguist Dr. Bhimkanta Baruah, and noted writer and former professor Bharati Dutta, Dr. Nirupama Bhattacharya, senior professor of the Philosophy Department at Sivasagar University and eminent writer, also attended as a keynote speaker.
