“Assam Ensures NEET Integrity: Only Govt Colleges as Centres, Biometric Checks Introduced”

Assam Strengthens NEET Exam Security: Biometric Checks, Govt-Only Centres

In a major move to ensure transparency in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), the Assam government has announced strict reforms, including restricting exam centres to government colleges and introducing biometric verification for candidates.

The decision follows an investigation by Assam Police, which flagged potential irregularities at private exam centres where some candidates allegedly scored abnormally high marks.

Key Reforms Introduced:

  1. Govt-Only Exam Centres: NEET will now be conducted exclusively in government or government-aided institutions, removing private centres.
  2. Biometric/Aadhaar Verification: Mandatory identity checks to prevent impersonation.
  3. CCTV Surveillance: All centres to have real-time monitoring.
  4. Strict Frisking: Enhanced security protocols to deter cheating.
  5. Pre-Exam Inspections: District officials to sanitize centres before exam day.
  6. Senior Officials as Observers: IAS and IPS officers to oversee exam conduct.
  7. Zero Tolerance Policy: Legal action against malpractices.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated, “NEET is a crucial exam, and we are committed to ensuring its fair and transparent conduct.”

The new measures aim to restore trust in the examination process amid rising concerns over irregularities.
