Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Woos Japanese Investors in Tokyo

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with over 160 Japanese business leaders in Tokyo, inviting them to invest in the state. This meeting marks the first day of the second leg of his global outreach initiative in Japan for the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit .

Sarma highlighted Assam’s growing role in strengthening economic ties between India and Japan, emphasizing the state’s robust growth trajectory since 2014. Assam’s GDP has surged from USD 29 billion in 2013-14 to USD 68.7 billion in 2023-24, with an annual growth rate of 12.4% .

The Chief Minister showcased Assam’s investment ecosystem, business-friendly policies, and robust infrastructure, positioning the state as a promising investment destination. He also met with Japanese officials, including Kazuya Nakajo, Executive Vice-President of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), to discuss strengthening trade relations and exploring opportunities for mutual growth .

Sarma’s meetings with Japanese leaders, including Japan State Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry Koga Yuichiro, and executives from Hitachi and Renesas Global, aimed to establish partnerships in renewable energy, semiconductor growth, and other sectors .

The Assam Chief Minister’s visit to Tokyo is part of his efforts to attract global investments and showcase the state’s potential under the Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative.
