Guwahati, January 13, 2026 – Football fever gripped Assam today as the iconic original FIFA World Cup Trophy arrived in Guwahati, marking its maiden visit to the Northeast region and a historic moment for fans across the state.
Enthusiastic football lovers gathered in large numbers at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Borjhar), eagerly waiting to catch a personal glimpse of the most prestigious prize in world football.
Officials from the Assam Football Association, along with other dignitaries, extended a warm traditional welcome to the trophy upon its arrival, celebrating this rare opportunity ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The legendary trophy was then securely transported directly from the airport to the ACA Stadium, Barsapara (Barsapara Stadium) in a special high-security case, where it will be on public display starting from the afternoon. This stop in Guwahati is part of the global FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola, which brings the solid gold trophy to fans worldwide in the lead-up to the 2026 tournament co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
This marks the trophy’s return to India after nearly 12 years, following its showcase in Delhi earlier this week. The event in Assam promises to inspire young talents and unite football enthusiasts in the region.
Football fans in Guwahati and surrounding areas are encouraged to head to Barsapara Stadium to witness this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle up close!
