Special Correspondent, TEZPUR, April 24 : In collaboration with Tezpur Photography Club and Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Sonitpur Press Club celebrated 94th Birth day of internationally reputed photo artist Nalini Kanta Baruah on Monday at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan with hours long programme. Amidst enthusiastic participation of the dignitaries of different organisations and host of peoples from different walks of life alongwith Baruah his son Madhurjya Barua and daughter in law Deepa Barua and his daughter cut the birthday cake to enjoy the auspicious occasion.
It is worth mentioning that Bishnu Rabha award winning noted photo artist Nalini Kanta Barua, a creator of most prominent and acclaimed creations in and around the globe like Cat Trio, Mising Bihu Dance, Reserved Seat and Unwanted Baby , Nalini Kanta Baruah has already successfully organised as many as forty-nine one man exhibition at different venues around the globe including the first exhibition in Tezpur in 1968 at Hem Baruah Hall, in Guwahati in 1971 and again in Tezpur in 1977, in 1976 at Barpeta session of Asam Sahitya Sabha, in 1980 at Jehangir Art Gallery,Mumbai. Exhibitions of his creations were held earlier in Kolkata , New Delhi , New Jersey,USA(1993) and London(2001). During the past years he was honoured by Gauhati University in 1975 and by Darrang College in 1976 and 1979. He won the prestigious Club Award in an international colour slide exhibition held in Italy in 1981 . For his lifelong contribution to the Art of Photography the Assam Agricultural University honoured him in 1982. In 1955 he was awarded by the Indian International Photographic Council and in 1996 North Eastern Photographic Association honoured him by nominating as a member of Jury.
Attending the programme hosted by Executive president of Sonitpur Press Club Pankaj Barua Sonitpur Zila Sahitya Sabha president Bhupen Saikia in his deliberation elaborated the history and importance of photography. He further said that photographs of Nalini Kanta Barua always expose his distinctive qualities of a sincere, dedicated and true artist . Noted educationist and former president of Baan Theatre Mahendra Nath Keot also speaking on the occasion highly commended the remarkable works and qualities of Baruah as a distinguished photo artist. For the occasion artist Nalini Kanta Baruah also said a few words and said that he would continue his artistic journey since the best photograph of his life is yet to be captured. At the very outset of the programme secretary of Tezpur Photography Club Barlin Kumar Saikia welcomed the guests with his brief speech.
