Twenty-three personnel from the Assam police have been awarded police gallantry awards on the occasion of 75th Independence Day.The Ministry of Home on Sunday announced the list of awardees in the various categories of service medals, including for gallant action that includes 1,082 police personnel from CAPFs and state forces.
Among them, 347 have been awarded police medal for gallantry (PMG), 87 President’s police medal for distinguished service and 648 given police medals for meritorious service.Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) John Das has been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), the highest honour in the category.
He is among the eight police personnel from the state to bag the award for their distinguished service.On the other hand, Himangshu Das, Asstt. Commissioner of Police, Guwahati had been awarded President Police Medal (PPM) for Distinguish Service.Similarly, Diganta Kumar Choudhury,
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Police Commissionerate, Guwahati, Assam and Biraj Das, Superintendent of Police (Commn), APRO Ulubari, Guwahati, Assam are among the 14 policemen who had been honoured with Police Medal (PM) for Meritorious Service.
