Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to Assam, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to the development and cultural recognition of the Northeast. Addressing a massive gathering in Guwahati, PM Modi emphasized the region’s historical neglect and vowed to transform it into a hub of growth and cultural pride.
“There was a time when the development of Assam and the Northeast was neglected in the country, and the culture here was also ignored. But Modi himself has become the brand ambassador of the culture of the Northeast,” he stated, underscoring his personal dedication to the region’s progress.
PM Modi also highlighted his landmark visit to Kaziranga National Park, making him the first Prime Minister to do so. “I am the first Prime Minister to stop at Kaziranga in Assam and tell the world about its biodiversity,” he said, stressing the global importance of the region’s wildlife and natural heritage.
In a significant announcement, the Prime Minister celebrated the recognition of Assamese as a classical language, a long-awaited honor for the people of Assam. “A few months ago, we also gave Assamese classical language status. The people of Assam have been waiting for this honour for their language for decades,” he remarked, acknowledging the cultural and historical significance of the decision.
The Prime Minister’s visit and assurances are part of a broader push to develop the Northeast both economically and culturally. His administration has been actively working to integrate the region’s rich heritage into the national narrative while accelerating its development.
