Debabrata Saikia, Congress MLA and leader of Congress Legislature Party in Assam Legislative Assembly on Sunday lodged a complaint against All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MP Badruddin Ajmal at Simaluguri police station in Assam’s Sivasagar district. “Today I lodged a complaint before police against AIUDF Chief and MP of Dhubri parliamentary constituency Badruddin Ajmal for his derogatory statement against women.
He is a Maulana and a renowned person of Darul Uloom Deoband and Darul Uloom had a big contribution in the freedom movement of the country. But he made some unconstitutional, derogatory statement against women,” Debabrata Saikia said. It is noteworthy that a day after making controversial remarks on Hindus, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal on Saturday expressed ‘apology’ saying that he had no intention of hurting anyone’s sentiments.
“I had no intentions of hurting the sentiments of any community. I deeply regret my statement. Being a senior leader, I should not have made such comments. I apologise to everyone hurt by my remarks. I am ashamed of the statements. All I want is for the government to do justice to the minorities and give them education and employment,” said Ajmal. He, however, said there was a need to think about population control.
