To encourage differently-abled students to pursue higher education, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has decided to waive fees. The AHSEC has informed the Principal of Government BDS Deaf and Dumb School, Kahilipara, Guwahati, that the Council has decided to exempt students
with ‘benchmark disabilities’ from paying the registration fee, examination fee (including mark-sheet fee), certificate fee, practical exam fee, etc., and center fee. The United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3 established the International Day of Disabled Persons as an annual observance in 1992.
The purpose of the Day is to raise awareness of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities. It also aims to raise awareness of the benefits of integrating people with disabilities into all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
