Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi Slams Union Budget 2025 as “Weakest in Decade”

Guwahati, February 1: Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi has strongly criticized the Union Budget 2025, labeling it as the “weakest” and “poorest” budget in the last decade. Gogoi expressed his disappointment, stating that the budget is a repetition of promises made over the past decade, offering nothing substantial for the poor, farmers, or the middle class .

Gogoi slammed the government’s approach, alleging that tax waivers primarily benefit large corporations, while the common people continue to suffer under rising GST and other economic burdens. He also raised doubts about the announcement of no tax up to an income of Rs 12 lakh per annum, stating that the details remain unclear .

The Congress MP termed the budget announcements as “jumla” (empty rhetoric) and emphasized that a detailed analysis would expose the reality. He concluded by announcing that the Congress party would present its official response and analysis of the budget at a press conference scheduled for 5 PM today .

Gogoi’s criticism is not isolated, as other opposition leaders have also slammed the budget for being biased towards Bihar elections and neglecting the needs of other states .The Congress party has demanded a revamp of the GST rates to provide relief to the middle and lower-middle classes .
