ABVP Files FIR Against Assam University Student for ‘Anti-National’ Posts; Apology Issued
Silchar, April 25, 2025 – The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Assam University Silchar Unit has filed a police complaint against Md. Bahauddin Choudhury, a Computer Science student, for allegedly posting “anti-national and anti-Hindu” remarks on social media following the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
Allegations and FIR Details
The ABVP accused Choudhury of making derogatory and inflammatory statements in a Facebook post on April 23, targeting those discussing the Pahalgam attack. The FIR claims he used offensive language, including calling individuals “pig’s kid” and falsely accusing Hindus of violence against Muslims.
The complaint invokes sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, related to defamation, promoting enmity between groups, and inciting communal violence. ABVP has demanded strict legal action, citing threats to national security and social harmony.
Student’s Apology
In response, Choudhury issued a public apology on Facebook, stating, “I now realize my words were inappropriate and offensive. I sincerely apologize; it was never my intention to hurt anyone.” However, ABVP insists on legal consequences, calling the apology insufficient.
University and Police Response
Assam University authorities are investigating the matter, while police are yet to comment on the FIR’s status. The incident has reignited debates on regulating hate speech online.
