Modi Unleashes ₹4,570 Crore Power Surge for Assam’s Future

PM Modi Virtually Unveils ₹4,570 Crore Development Projects in Kokrajhar, Assam | Flags Off 3 New Trains Ahead of 2026 Assembly Elections

Guwahati, March 13, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually unveiled a series of transformative development projects worth over ₹4,570 crore in Assam’s Kokrajhar district. The event took place via video conference from Guwahati after heavy rainfall forced the cancellation of his physical visit to Kokrajhar.

The initiatives, focused on enhancing railway infrastructure, road connectivity, and overall regional development in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), come at a crucial time ahead of the Assam Assembly Elections expected in March-April 2026. The ruling BJP, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is seeking a third consecutive term.

In his address, PM Modi emphasized the significant progress in the Northeast under the BJP government. “The sounds of bombs and gunfire are a thing of the past in the Northeast,” he stated, crediting the BJP for ensuring long-lasting peace in the region. He contrasted this with the Congress party’s approach, alleging that previous accords were signed for “selfish interests” and that the party had endangered national security by “handing over the land of indigenous people to infiltrators.”

The Prime Minister called on voters to “punish Congress in the upcoming elections and give a clear message that there is no place for infiltrators in this country.”

Key Projects Unveiled and Flagged Off

  • Three New Train Services Flagged Off:
  • Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express: Providing direct rail connectivity between the Northeast and southern India.
  • Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express: Strengthening links between Assam and West Bengal.
  • Narangi-Agartala Express: Improving rail connectivity to Tripura.
  • Foundation Stone Laid for Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Bashbari in Kokrajhar: This facility will strengthen railway maintenance and boost operational efficiency in the region.
  • Bhoomi Poojan for Assam Mala 3.0: A major road infrastructure initiative involving the construction of over 900 km of roads. The project aims to improve inter-state connectivity, link national highways with rural roads, and promote seamless mobility.
  • Four Flyovers and Two Bridges in BTC Area: These infrastructure developments, with an investment of around ₹1,100 crore, are expected to ease traffic congestion in Kokrajhar district, while enhancing access to tourism spots, agricultural markets, healthcare facilities, and rural areas.

Officials highlighted that these projects will significantly improve connectivity, reduce travel time, boost economic activities, and support inclusive growth in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) region and beyond.

PM Modi’s focus on peace, development, and security issues is seen as a strategic outreach in poll-bound Assam, where the BJP aims to consolidate its support base in tribal and indigenous communities.

Stay tuned for more updates on Assam’s development journey and the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2026.
