Shocking Incident in Assam Government School: Six-Year-Old Student Burnt While Forced to Burn Garbage by Head Teacher
Amid the government’s massive investments of crores of rupees to radically transform the state’s education system and improve quality standards, a shameful incident has come to light in a government school in Lamding.
Serious allegations have been raised against a head teacher for forcing students to work like labourers instead of teaching them. The incident occurred at New LP School in Khangar Gaon, Lamding.
According to the allegations, the school’s head teacher, Sajol Majumdar, instead of conducting classes, instructed several young students to clean the school premises and burn old documents and piles of garbage.
While following the teacher’s instructions and lighting fire to the garbage pile, a six-year-old student named Manoj Das accidentally suffered burn injuries. The fire severely burnt the student’s hand, leaving him in extreme pain.
When the injured student’s parents approached the school and confronted the head teacher for accountability, his response left everyone stunned. Sajol Majumdar made an insensitive and irresponsible remark, comparing this inhuman act to the recent situation in Bangladesh, saying, “This fire is a very small matter; even bigger fires are burning in Bangladesh.”
