Staff Reporter, Assam Barta, December 24:In Guwahati, allegations have surfaced against a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for posting obscene and character-assassinating comments on social media targeting Palakshi Das, spokesperson of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee. The accused has been identified as Karuna Hazarika, a member of the Jorhat district BJP’s social media cell.
According to the complaint received, on December 22, Karuna Hazarika posted highly vulgar and objectionable comments targeting Palakshi Das on various social media platforms, including Facebook. The incident has sparked intense outrage within the Congress party.
Following the episode, Palakshi Das personally visited the Panbazar Women’s Police Station and lodged an FIR against the accused, demanding strict legal action. She was accompanied during the filing of the FIR by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Tridip Barman, senior spokesperson Rupak Das, advocate Banshree Gogoi, and leader Niren Bora.
The Congress party has condemned the act as extreme misogynistic behaviour and a direct attack on the dignity of a woman leader. The party has called upon Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Dilip Saikia to intervene in the matter and take organisational as well as legal action against the accused member.
