medabad, 12 June 2025: A tragic aviation disaster struck Ahmedabad on Thursday afternoon as an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner, operating flight AI171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft, carrying 230 passengers, 2 pilots, and 10 crew members, plunged into the Meghani area, triggering a massive explosion and fire due to its heavy fuel load.Multiple fire engines, ambulances, and disaster response teams rushed to the crash site as thick black smoke billowed from the wreckage. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed six teams (180 personnel) from Gandhinagar and Vadodara to assist in rescue operations. Authorities have yet to confirm casualties, but the high fuel volume has intensified the blaze, complicating efforts. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced a formal investigation, with technical support expected from Boeing. No official cause has been identified, though experts suggest the long-haul fuel load may have worsened the post-crash fire.Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, assuring full central support.
