Rupamoni Gorh Summits Mount Everest with ITBP All-Women Team in Historic 2026 Expedition
Agartala/New Delhi: In a proud moment for Assam and the entire nation, mountaineer Rupamoni Gorh has successfully scaled the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest (8,848 metres), as part of the first-ever ITBP All-Women Everest Expedition 2026.
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) team achieved the summit on May 21, 2026, via the South Col route from the Nepal side, marking a significant milestone in promoting women’s empowerment in adventure and high-altitude mountaineering.
Rupamoni Gorh, one of the few women from Assam to conquer Everest, was among the 11 women climbers in the 14-member contingent. The expedition was led by Bhanita Timungpi, with Anoop Kumar as climbing leader and renowned IFMGA guide Sonam Chhiring Lama heading the support team.
A Historic All-Women Mission for Nari Shakti
Flagged off from New Delhi on April 19, 2026, this expedition was specially designed to showcase Nari Shakti (women power) and highlight the increasing participation of women in challenging fields. The successful summit by Rupamoni Gorh and her teammates has brought immense pride to the state of Assam and the ITBP force.
Officials praised the determination, courage, and endurance shown by the entire team and their supporting Sherpas. Logistics partner Seven Summit Treks also played a crucial role in making the expedition successful.
