Manipur CM Seeks Probe into Skyrocketing Air Ticket Prices

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu to send a team to investigate the exorbitant air ticket prices in the state. Singh made this request during the launch of three Alliance Air flights, which will connect Imphal to Kolkata, Guwahati, and Dimapur in Nagaland.

The chief minister expressed concern over the high air ticket prices, citing examples of Delhi to Imphal flights costing up to Rs 20,000 and Imphal to Guwahati flights ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. He emphasized that these prices are unaffordable for the common people.

Singh also highlighted the state’s difficult situation over the past 20 months, which has forced people to rely on air travel due to the prevailing crisis. He requested the Civil Aviation minister to minimize flight ticket prices and provide more direct flights to Delhi and Kolkata.

The Alliance Air flights, operated under the Viability Gap Funding scheme, will have airfare capped at a maximum of Rs 5,000. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and accessibility for the people of Manipur.
