In a major rejig in Assam police, Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh has been transferred as Special Director General of Police (Administration), Assam, Ulubari, Guwahati on Tuesday. He will be replaced by Diganta Borah, Commissioner and Secretary to the state government, Home and Political and Information and Public Relations Departments.
However, Singh will continue to be substantively posted as Special Director General of Police (Border), Assam. Similarly, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Police Commissionerate, Sudhakar Singh, was also transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Nalbari. Surjeet Singh Panesar, serving as Commandant, 1 APBn., Ligiripukhuri, Sivasagar, will be replacing Sudhakar Singh.
The reshuffle in the city police top brass came at a time when the city police have been undergoing severe public criticism with the crime graph of the city constantly uprising in recent times. Several cases of broad daylight murder, loot, chain snatching, theft and gun running cases have been recorded in the city in the last few weeks.
Recently, Assam police top officials also reviewed the law and order situation of the city and directed the city police to accelerate the investigation of pending cases. On the other hand, SP Nalbari Pabindra Kr. Nath was transferred and posted as Commandant, AFPF Bn., Sekoni, Jakhalabandha, Nagaon.
