Dhubri’s Terracotta Maestro Dhirendra Nath Pal to Receive Assam Gaurav Award

The Assam government has announced that master terracotta artist Dhirendra Nath Pal from Asharikandi village, Dhubri district, will be honored with the prestigious Assam Gaurav Award. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed the decision on March 9, recognizing Pal’s exceptional contributions to preserving and promoting Assam’s traditional terracotta craft.

A native of a family of artisans, Pal has dedicated his life to reviving and innovating Assamese terracotta art. His work, deeply rooted in cultural heritage, has earned him national and international acclaim. In 2005, he was awarded the Bokulbon Award for his efforts in safeguarding Assamese folk art and culture.

Pal’s exquisite terracotta creations have captivated art enthusiasts across India and beyond, even reaching European markets. His leadership has transformed Asharikandi village into a thriving hub for terracotta artisans. Under his mentorship, numerous families have embraced this art form, ensuring economic stability and preserving the craft for future generations.
