In a historic victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has ended the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) 10-year reign in Delhi, winning 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections. This marks the BJP’s return to power in the national capital after a 27-year exile.
The AAP, which dominated the last two elections, secured 22 seats, while the Congress failed to win a single seat for the third consecutive time. The BJP’s victory is a significant turnaround from its single-digit tally in the 2020 Assembly elections.
The BJP’s victory is seen as a major boost for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who slammed the AAP for its performance in Delhi during his victory speech. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal, who lost his seat, accepted the people’s verdict and stated that his party will play the role of a “constructive opposition” .
