Trouble continued for All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal as the Assam State Commission for Women has issued a notice to him for his remarks on the Hindu community and women in general.
Earlier, asking the Hindus to follow the Muslim formula of the wedding, the minority leader said that Hindu men and women indulge in illicit activities till 40 years of age without having children whether Muslims marry earlier and have children.
His comment has sparked a series of protests across the state and multiple FIRs were lodged against him. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has asked the state police to transfer all the cases against Ajmal to the Karimganj police station for further action.
Serving the notice, the women’s commission observed that Ajmal’s comments were not only derogatory but were sexist and misogynistic. Following public outcry, Ajmal apologised for his comment. However, it did not douse the fire yet.
