Assam DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh Joins CRPF as Director General

Guwahati , january 27:In a significant development, Gyanendra Pratap Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam, has been released from state services to join the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) as Director General. Singh, a 1991-batch Assam-Meghalaya cadre IPS officer, has been leading the Assam Police since February 1, 2023.

As per a notification issued by the Home and Political Commissioner & Secretary, Biswajit Pegu, Singh will be relieved from his duties as DGP from the date of handing over of charges. He will serve as the DG of CRPF until his retirement in November 2027 or until further orders.

Meanwhile, Special DGP Harmeet Singh has been given the additional charge to look after the DGP’s work. Harmeet Singh is currently serving as the Special DGP of Headquarters and Border, Director General of Civil Defence, Commandant General of Home Guards, and Director of Fire and Emergency Services.

Gyanendra Pratap Singh’s departure from Assam Police marks the end of his two-year tenure as DGP. During his stint, he played a crucial role in maintaining law and order in the state, particularly during the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in 2019. Singh has also served in various capacities, including as the IGP of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and as part of the Special Protection Group (SPG) ¹.
