Guwahati: In a significant development aimed at accelerating Assam’s growth, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced the much-awaited portfolio allocation among members of the newly constituted Council of Ministers. The allocation, approved by the Governor of Assam, reflects a strategic blend of experience and fresh energy in the 17-member cabinet.
Sarma has retained several high-impact departments including Home and Political, Public Works Department (Buildings & National Highways), Public Works Department (Roads), Power, Information and Public Relations, Printing and Stationery, along with any unallocated subjects. This move underscores his continued focus on core governance, infrastructure, and security.
Key Portfolio Highlights:
- Dr. Ranoj Pegu (Senior Cabinet Minister): Retained School Education and Higher Education. Additionally assigned Tribal Affairs (Plains) and Information Technology.
- Ashok Singhal: Continues with Health and Family Welfare along with Medical Education and Research.
- Jayanta Malla Baruah (Close aide of CM Sarma): Given the critical Finance Department, plus Environment & Forest, and Mines & Minerals.
- Bimal Borah: Handles Cultural Affairs, Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, and Act East Policy Affairs.
