INDIA Alliance Meeting 2026: Opposition Bloc Faces Implosion as Congress Faces Backlash from Allies

INDIA Alliance Meeting Exposes Deep Cracks as Opposition Tries to Rebuild Strategy Against BJP

New Delhi: Top leaders of the INDIA alliance gathered on Monday in a crucial meeting at Constitution Club, attempting to redraw their strategy against the BJP amid growing internal turmoil and recent electoral setbacks. This seventh meeting of the opposition bloc comes at a time when regional heavyweights like TMC and DMK have suffered defeats, raising serious questions about the alliance’s unity and future.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that the alliance reached consensus on five major issues after a two-hour-long meeting attended by prominent leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Supriya Sule, Tejashwi Yadav, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti. Uddhav Thackeray and Hemant Soren joined virtually.

Key Decisions Taken by INDIA Alliance

  1. The opposition will write to the Chief Justice of India over concerns regarding electoral fairness and alleged vote theft.
  2. Immediate resignation of the Union Education Minister demanded over NEET-UG and CBSE irregularities.
  3. Call for an all-party meeting to discuss economy, unemployment, inflation, and farmers’ issues.
  4. INDIA alliance parties to meet every two months — next meeting scheduled in Hyderabad on August 8.
  5. Daily coordination meetings during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Leaders from 25 parties participated, including Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, RJD, Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar), Left parties, and others.

BJP Highlights “Complete Implosion” in INDIA Bloc

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed the meeting, claiming there is no real INDIA alliance left. In a series of posts on X, he pointed to escalating fights between Congress and allies like DMK, JMM, Left parties, and now AAP.

“After DMK versus Congress, JMM versus Congress and the complete implosion of the INDI alliance… AAP has now also targeted the Congress,” Poonawalla said.

He accused Congress of using regional parties and then discarding them, calling the alliance “only in papers and headlines” with “no mission, no vision, only division.”

Poonawalla also highlighted ongoing electoral contests between INDIA bloc partners in states like West Bengal, Kerala, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

Alliance Weakened Over Past Three Years

Kharge admitted that three parties have distanced themselves: JD(U) before 2024 Lok Sabha polls, AAP during Delhi-Haryana elections, and DMK showing reduced alignment recently.

Despite the challenges, the opposition is pushing for stronger coordination on political, economic, and institutional issues ahead of future elections.

Political analysts suggest the INDIA alliance is struggling to maintain a common purpose, with convenience rather than conviction driving partnerships. Whether today’s decisions translate into real ground action remains to be seen as the Monsoon Session approaches.
