The decision comes following serious allegations of irregularities and discrepancies during the voting process held on April 9, 2026.

The ECI has declared the original polling at booth 239 void under Section 58(2)(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Voters at this specific booth will now get another opportunity to exercise their democratic right in the Uttar Karimganj reelection scheduled for April 11, 2026 (Saturday).

Key Details of the Uttar Karimganj Reelection:

  • Polling Booth: 239 (Babyland English High School / বেবিলেণ্ড ইংলিছ হাইস্কুল)

  • Location: Same venue – Babyland English High School
  • Constituency: 123 Uttar Karimganj (Karimganj North), Assam

The Congress party had raised strong complaints regarding irregularities and discrepancies in the voting process at this booth. After reviewing the reports and materials, the Election Commission took the decision to ensure free and fair polling.

Authorities have been instructed to widely publicize the repoll among voters, political parties, candidates, and election officials in the area. The Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, has been directed to ensure proper communication so that all eligible voters are informed in time.
