Internationally Acclaimed Musician Breathes His Last in Chennai Hospital

News Desk, Assam Barta, 3 November: A radiant star of Assam’s music world, internationally renowned flutist Deepak Sharma, is no more. He took his final breath on the morning of 3 November at Apollo Rela Hospital (Rela Hospital) in Chennai, where he was undergoing treatment. Suffering from a severe liver ailment, Deepak Sharma had been on ventilator support for the past several days, with his health condition remaining extremely critical. Ultimately, after battling death, he slipped into eternal sleep. A few weeks ago, following a deterioration in his health, he was airlifted from Guwahati to Chennai for advanced medical care. Despite treatment under specialist doctors, all efforts proved futile in the face of the complex liver disease.

Deepak Sharma was a living symbol of Assam’s cultural identity. The melodious notes of his flute brought pride to Assam both at home and abroad. Performing on international stages multiple times, he presented a unique fusion of Indian classical music and folk traditions. Through his music, the Assamese flute earned a place on the global map.

Sources from the family have informed that his mortal remains will soon be brought back to Assam.
