Assam’s National Lok Adalat Resolves 29,021 Cases, Settles ₹127.84 Crore Disputes

In a significant move to expedite justice delivery, the Assam State Legal Services Authority (ASLSA), in collaboration with the Gauhati High Court Legal Services Committee, successfully conducted the National Lok Adalat today. This initiative, part of a nationwide legal settlement drive led by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), aimed to resolve pending and pre-litigation cases through mutual consent.

The Lok Adalat was organized across 33 District Legal Services Authorities and two Taluk Legal Services Committees, addressing a wide range of disputes. Cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act (Section 138), bank recovery disputes, electricity bill matters, matrimonial conflicts, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, Motor Vehicles Act violations, and other compoundable civil and criminal cases were taken up for resolution.

According to official data, a total of 2,00,463 cases were presented during the Adalat, with 29,021 cases successfully settled. The total settlement amount reached an impressive ₹127.84 crore, providing timely and cost-effective justice to thousands of citizens.

Legal authorities have praised the initiative as a crucial step in reducing case backlogs and ensuring accessible justice. The success of the Lok Adalat highlights its role as an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, saving time and legal expenses for individuals.
