AAP demands formation of SIT to investigate coal syndicate

Guwahati, 17 February: Youth leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saurabh Kalita, has alleged that top officials of the Assam government are involved in the illegal coal mining and supply operations in the state. At a press conference held at the state office of AAP in Ganeshguri today, Saurabh Kalita, the General Secretary of AAP’s youth wing, said, “AAP demands the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the illegal coal syndicate in the state. The recent seizure of a coal-laden truck in Goalpara has exposed the reality of certain leaders in the BJP government and the party.”

The AAP youth leader further alleged that “Abdur Rahim Jibran, who is involved in the Goalpara coal syndicate, has close ties with Minister Pijush Hazarika.” He also raised concerns about the cattle and pork syndicates operating in Upper Assam. Kalita claimed that a man named Sibchand Hatibaruah is involved in the illegal cattle and pork syndicate, as reported in the media, but the administration has not taken any action against him.

He stated, “It is suspicious that the government of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has not taken any action to put an end to the syndicates operating in the state.”

Additionally, Jitu Deka, Vice President of AAP’s youth wing, raised concerns about the establishment of check gates in autonomous council regions of the state. He alleged that the administration is collecting uncontrolled taxes through check gates in regions like Dima Hasao District, Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, and other autonomous council areas.

Jitu Deka said, “The current government has imposed excessive taxes on the public. Such anti-people policies remind us of the autocratic policies of the previous Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) government led by former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. The people will give a fitting response to this tax-burdening government in the days to come.”
