Mati Bachao- Jati Bachao’ : Gaurav Gogoi Targets Himanta, Biswa Sarma: Vows Land Scam Probe

Mati Bachao – Jati Bachao: Explosive Attack Exposes 12000 Bighas Scam

Tinsukia, March 2: Turning up the political heat in Upper Assam, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi on Monday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging misuse of power and warning that a Congress government would order a probe into an alleged land scam linked to the Chief Minister’s family.

Addressing supporters during the ‘Samay Parivartan Yatra’ at Doomdooma in Tinsukia district, Gogoi accused the Chief Minister of running a politics of fear, inducement and division. He claimed the ruling dispensation was attempting to intimidate citizens and polarise society for political gain.

“The people of Assam must protect their land, identity and the spirit of brotherhood,” Gogoi said, striking a combative tone before a sizeable gathering of party workers and supporters. He asserted that if the Congress returns to power, it will investigate “thousands of bighas of land” allegedly allotted in the names of the Chief Minister’s family members.
The Yatra — projected by the Congress as a mass outreach against what it calls misinformation and intimidation politics — drew hundreds of workers who received Gogoi at Uchamati and escorted him with party flags through key stretches of Doomdooma town up to the Hanuman Temple at Koliapani.

Senior Congress leader Debabrata Saikia also joined the march and mounted a broadside against the State government. He alleged that several major promises of the Chief Minister remain unfulfilled, including granting Scheduled Tribe status to six communities and filling up vacant government posts.

Saikia further claimed that “hate politics” was being encouraged in Assam but insisted the State’s social fabric would resist such attempts. He urged Congress workers to intensify grassroots mobilisation in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly elections.

When asked about remarks by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, the APCC chief downplayed the issue, saying the Congress does not consider it necessary to respond to every statement made by the legislator.

The march also saw the presence of former Jharkhand minister and AICC’s Assam in-charge Bandhu Tirkey, who accompanied Gogoi during the temple visit. Former minister and Nagaon LS MP Pradyut Bordoloi also participated in the Yatra. After offering prayers, the leaders proceeded towards Margherita via Digboi as part of the ongoing political outreach.

Local Congress aspirants — Durga Bhumij, Lalit Tanti, Suresh Bhumij and Chandan Bag — were also visible during the mobilisation drive, signalling early organisational activity in the Doomdooma constituency.
With the Congress attempting to regain lost ground in Upper Assam, the padyatra has clearly marked the beginning of an aggressive political campaign — one that is likely to intensify in the months ahead.
