“Massive Fire in Guwahati’s Gandhi Basti Tiniali Destroys 30+ Homes, Leaves Families Homeless”

Guwahati Fire Tragedy: Over 30 Houses Gutted, Families Rendered Homeless

Guwahati, June 13, 2025 – A massive fire broke out in Gandhi Basti Tiniali’s Anu Baruah Path on Thursday morning, reducing more than 30 houses to ashes and leaving several families homeless. The blaze, which started around 11 AM, quickly spread due to multiple LPG cylinder explosions, engulfing the densely populated area in thick black smoke.

  • The fire originated in a residential complex owned by Munna Newar, where rows of small rented houses were located.
  • Around 20 houses inside Newar’s compound were completely destroyed.
  • Eight LPG cylinders exploded in succession, causing flames to leap to nearby homes, including 10 houses rented out by Aminur Rahma.
  • Most affected were daily wage laborers and small traders, many of whom returned to find their homes destroyed.
  • “Everything is gone—my savings, my belongings. We have nothing left,” said a weeping resident.
  • Property worth lakhs of rupees was lost, though no casualties were reported.

Locals criticized the slow arrival of fire tenders, claiming faster action could have minimized damage. Firefighters took over an hour to control the flames.Authorities suspect a gas leak or cylinder explosion triggered the fire. A detailed probe is ongoing to determine the exact cause.
