Assam Governor Visits Morigaon: Inspects Tata Semiconductor Project and Development Initiatives

Morigaon, January 8, 2026 – Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya is undertaking a day-long visit to several key locations in Morigaon district today, highlighting the region’s progress in agriculture, education, handicrafts, and high-tech industry. Extensive security and logistical arrangements have been made for the Governor’s tour.

The Governor’s itinerary begins at 11:00 AM with a visit to a fish production centre at Nizorapara in Jagiroad. He will then proceed to Kumoi Regional Secondary School for an interaction.

Following this, Shri Acharya will inspect the Anazari Handloom Centre in Jhargaon, showcasing Assam’s rich traditional weaving heritage.

At 12:30 PM, the Governor will arrive at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Jhargaon, where he will inspect the Amrit Sarovar project – a key initiative under the government’s water conservation efforts. He will also interact with beneficiaries of various central and state schemes and hold a review meeting with the district administration to assess ongoing development works.

The highlight of the visit will be the Governor’s inspection of the ambitious Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility project in Jagiroad. This ₹27,000 crore greenfield unit, set for operational phases in 2025-2026, is poised to produce millions of chips daily and generate over 27,000 direct and indirect jobs, marking a major boost for Assam’s industrial landscape and India’s semiconductor ambitions.

The visit underscores the state’s focus on balanced growth across rural development, traditional crafts, and cutting-edge technology, fostering employment and self-reliance in the Northeast.
