Team Europe Delegation Arrives in Guwahati: Boosting EU-India Ties & Blue Valleys Initiative in Assam’s North-East
Team Europe Delegation Strengthens EU-India Partnership in Assam with Blue Valleys Launch
Guwahati, Assam, June 8, 2026 – A high-level Team Europe delegation from the European Union arrived in Guwahati today for a crucial two-day visit aimed at deepening collaboration with India’s North-Eastern states. This strategic engagement aligns with the Comprehensive Strategic Agenda finalized at the EU-India Summit in January 2026.
The delegation, led by Herve Delphin, Ambassador of the European Union to India and Bhutan, includes ambassadors and senior representatives from multiple EU Member States along with European business leaders. Their visit focuses on leveraging strong synergies between Europe and the eight North-Eastern states — Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura — across high-potential sectors.
Key focus areas include renewable and green energy, sustainable urban infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, tea and agri-food processing, flavours and fragrances, and AYUSH.
On Monday, the Team Europe delegation will hold bilateral talks with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. A parallel business delegation from the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI) will engage with state officials to identify concrete trade and investment opportunities.
Tomorrow (June 9), the delegation will participate in the high-profile ‘Blue Valleys: Building ecosystems and value chains between India and Europe’ workshop organized by the Assam government. This event will connect European and Indian businesses to explore joint ventures in sustainable industries and innovation.
A major highlight of the visit is the launch of Assam’s first Blue Valley Cluster — a pioneering 4P (public-private-people-partnership) industrial hub dedicated to fragrances, flavours, AYUSH, and food processing. This pilot project aims to link Europe, North-East India, and Bhutan, fostering innovation, research, sustainable manufacturing, and robust business collaborations.
The Blue Valleys initiative promotes industrial clusters, MSME linkages, and sector-specific value chain integration. Key sectors include clean energy, natural ingredients, bamboo-based industries, eco-friendly textiles, biotech, wellness, and smart manufacturing. The project emphasizes funding, skills development, and sustainability standards to create scalable models that benefit local communities while connecting them to European markets.
Ambassador Herve Delphin highlighted the immense potential of the region, stating: “North-East India and Assam at its core, has enormous potential — its resources, its skilled workforce and is already one of the fastest growing regions of India by GDP. Through initiatives like Blue Valleys, we’re not just discussing cooperation; we’re building real, long-term business-to-business partnerships that will drive growth for both the EU and India.”
The delegation will also visit Tata Electronics’ new semiconductor plant, underscoring the importance of the digital partnership under the EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC). This exposure will give European investors deeper insights into Assam’s business environment, infrastructure, and industrial capabilities.
This high-impact visit marks a significant new chapter in EU-India relations, moving from high-level summits to actionable, state-level implementation. By focusing on innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth, Team Europe is helping unlock the vast economic potential of India’s North-East.
Stay tuned for live updates from the Blue Valleys workshop and key outcomes from this strategic EU-India engagement in Assam.
