“Assam CM Sarma Vows to Quit if Wrong About Gogoi’s ISI Links; Congress MP Hits Back”

Guwahati, May 18, 2025 – Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made explosive allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, accusing him of having ties with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and vowing to resign if proven wrong. The war of words escalated as Gogoi dismissed the claims as “baseless” and “insane,” sparking a heated political showdown.

Sarma’s Explosive Allegations

Addressing a public rally, CM Sarma claimed Gogoi visited Pakistan at the invitation of its Interior Ministry, which oversees the ISI. “If this is not espionage, what is?” Sarma questioned, alleging that Gogoi’s parliamentary questions on India’s nuclear weapons and coastal security were influenced by foreign intelligence.

Daring Gogoi to refute the claims, Sarma declared, “If I’ve said even one thing wrong, I will not remain CM. I won’t even go home.” He further accused Gogoi’s spouse of receiving funds from a Pakistan-based NGO linked to the ISI.

Gogoi’s Fiery Response

Gogoi hit back on X (formerly Twitter), calling Sarma’s allegations “absurd and bordering on insanity.” He accused the CM of recycling lies without evidence and acting like an “IT cell troll.”

“For 13 years, Sarma has targeted me with baseless claims. If he has proof, let him make it public,” Gogoi said, adding that the Congress remains focused on Assam’s economic struggles and alleged “coal-drug mafia” under BJP rule.

Political Fallout Ahead of 2026 Polls

The clash intensifies ahead of Assam’s 2026 elections, with Gogoi warning, “After 2026, we’ll ensure Sarma gets some rest.” The Congress has yet to issue an official statement, while Sarma hinted at possible legal action based on “documentary evidence.”

As tensions rise, the controversy raises questions about national security and political vendettas, keeping Assam on edge.
