11 Killed In Mass Shooting At Australia’s Bondi Beach

Sydney, December 15, 2025 : A horrific terrorist attack targeted a Hanukkah celebration at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday evening, leaving at least 11 people dead and 29 others injured. Two gunmen opened fire on crowds gathered for the “Chanukah by the Sea” event, marking the first day of the Jewish Festival of Lights.

New South Wales Police declared the incident a terrorist act aimed at the Jewish community. The shooting began around 6:45 PM local time from a footbridge, with gunfire lasting approximately 10 minutes and causing widespread panic among hundreds of attendees.

One gunman was killed by police, while the second was critically injured and taken into custody. Among the injured are two police officers. Authorities recovered suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the scene, and investigations continue into possible accomplices.

Victims include Assistant Rabbi Eli Schlanger from Chabad of Bondi, a 12-year-old girl, an Israeli citizen, and a Holocaust survivor. The injured, several in critical condition, were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the attack as a “heartbreaking” act of antisemitic terrorism, stating, “An attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian.” New South Wales Premier Chris Minns called it “a horrific night for Sydney.”

Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos, with people fleeing as shots rang out. One bystander heroically disarmed a gunman. The attack has drawn global condemnation, with leaders expressing solidarity with Australia and the Jewish community. Security has been heightened around Bondi Beach and surrounding areas, with the public advised to avoid the vicinity.

This incident raises fresh concerns about rising antisemitism in Australia amid ongoing global tensions. Police urge calm as the investigation proceeds.
