Suspected ULFA-I RPG Strike Rocks Jagun Commando Camp; 4 Injured
TINSUKIA — In a major security breach, suspected cadres of the proscribed ULFA-I (United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent) launched a fierce, coordinated attack on the Assam Police Commando Battalion camp at 10th Mile, Jagun, during the early hours of March 22, 2026.
The assault has been officially confirmed by security sources, who state that the camp was targeted with 4 to 5 Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs), catching the personnel in a surprise strike.
The explosions resulted in injuries to four Commando personnel. Reports indicate that three of the personnel are grievously injured and in critical condition. All injured have been evacuated and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery and advanced medical care
.
This audacious attack has sent shockwaves across the state, particularly as Assam is currently in a high-alert phase due to the 2026 Assembly Election environment.
The use of heavy military-grade RPGs in a targeted strike against an elite Commando base is being viewed as a major security lapse.
Concerns are mounting among the general public and security agencies regarding the outfit’s ability to strike deep into Upper Assam despite the heavy deployment of forces for election duties.
A high alert has been sounded across the Tinsukia district and the interstate border to prevent any further subversive activities.
This was a calculated move to disrupt the peaceful election environment. We are treating this as a top-priority threat, and the search for the perpetrators is ongoing,” a senior intelligence official stated.
