PM Modi Heads to France to Co-Chair AI Summit with Macron, Inaugurates Indian Consulate and Visits ITER Project; US Visit Likely Next

Prime Minister Modi is heading to France to co-chair the AI Action Summit with President Macron. During his visit, he will inaugurate the first Indian consulate in France and inspect the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project in Marseille. Following his visit to France, there is a possibility that he will travel to the United States for a two-day visit at the invitation of President Donald Trump.

The Artificial Intelligence Summit, set to begin in Paris on Monday, will focus on the geopolitics of AI, amidst the backdrop of President Trump’s AI ambitions and China’s low-cost ChatGPT developments. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will co-chair the AI Summit 2025 with French President Emmanuel Macron. US Vice President JD Vance will also be present at the summit. On Wednesday, PM Modi will meet with French business leaders and attend a gala dinner.

The summit will bring together world leaders, officials, and experts to discuss the development of AI technology. The event takes place at a time when China’s affordable ChatGPT has shaken the industry. The goal of the summit is to explore how AI can be used for the benefit of all while managing potential risks.

Officials and CEOs from 80 countries, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft Chairman Brad Smith, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, will participate in the summit. A joint declaration is being prepared.

More than two years after the launch of ChatGPT, generative AI has been advancing rapidly. During a summit held in the UK last year, 28 countries pledged to address the risks associated with AI. The Paris summit will also focus on AI safety. According to Macron’s office, efforts are underway to sign a joint political declaration for a more ethical, democratic, and environmentally sustainable AI. However, it remains unclear whether the US will agree to such measures.
