Pawan Khera Levels Serious Allegations Against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma Over Foreign Passports and Assets
New Delhi: In a high-voltage press conference held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera today fired a fresh salvo against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, raising serious questions on multiple citizenship, undisclosed foreign properties, and massive overseas business interests.
Pawan Khera claimed that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, wife of the Assam CM, holds active passports from three countries — Egypt, UAE (United Arab Emirates), and Antigua & Barbuda. He questioned how an Indian citizen could possess multiple foreign passports, something strictly prohibited under Indian law.
“How can a citizen of India hold passports from three different countries? The government must clarify this immediately,” Pawan Khera said during the press meet.
The Congress leader further alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma owns undisclosed properties in Dubai. According to Pawan Khera, one property is linked to the M Group while another is registered directly in Riniki Bhuyan Sharma’s name. He slammed Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly not disclosing these assets in his election affidavit submitted during the nomination process.
Pawan Khera also brought to light the existence of a company named Asset Collective LLC, registered in the tax-friendly state of Wyoming, USA, with Himanta Biswa Sarma and his son listed as partners. The company reportedly has a massive budget of 3,467 crore US dollars (approximately Rs 52,000 crore) and plans to invest in hotel projects.
“Why was such a huge company registered in Wyoming, which offers significant tax benefits? The people of Assam deserve complete transparency on these foreign links,” Pawan Khera demanded.
Calls for Election Commission Investigation
Raising ethical and legal concerns, Pawan Khera urged the Election Commission of India to take immediate cognizance of the allegations and launch a thorough investigation. He emphasized that such serious claims involving foreign passports, hidden assets, and large-scale overseas companies directly impact public trust, especially when the Chief Minister and his family are in public life.
“The people of Assam deserve clarity. How can the CM’s wife hold multiple foreign passports and significant foreign assets while the family contests elections in India?” Pawan Khera asked.
These explosive allegations by Pawan Khera come at a time when political temperatures in Assam are rising ahead of the assembly elections. The Congress has demanded swift action and full disclosure from the Assam government and the Election Commission.
