Staff Reporter, TINSUKIA, January 23: Amid the daily bustle of passengers and trains, Tinsukia Railway Station briefly turned into a simulated theatre of crisis on Thursday as the Indian Army’s Red Shield Gunners led a joint anti-sabotage mock drill to test and strengthen security preparedness at one of Upper Assam’s busiest transit hubs.
The exercise, carried out as part of ongoing preventive security measures, was designed to assess readiness against potential threats posed by anti-national elements targeting vital public utilities and administrative installations. With the railway station identified as a critical infrastructure node, the drill assumed added significance in the context of ensuring public safety.

Real-life hostile scenarios were enacted to evaluate response mechanisms, communication flow and coordination on the ground. Special Forces of the Indian Army worked in close coordination with the State Police, Government Railway Police (GRP) and the civil administration, highlighting the importance of seamless inter-agency cooperation during emergencies.
From swift neutralisation of simulated threats to crowd control, casualty evacuation and the rapid restoration of normalcy, the drill covered every crucial aspect of crisis management. Officials said the exercise helped validate existing joint Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while also pinpointing areas that require further strengthening.
Beyond operational objectives, the visible presence and coordinated action of multiple security agencies sent out a reassuring message to commuters and local residents alike. Such drills, officials noted, not only sharpen operational readiness but also reinforce public confidence in the collective ability of security forces to respond effectively to any emerging threat.
